Hour 1: Introduction to Quadratics What is a quadratic equation? The standard form: ax 2 +bx+c=0. Identifying coefficients a, b, and c. Introduction to roots/solutions of an equation. Solving basic equations by taking the square root. Hour 2: Solving by Factoring Review of the Zero Product Property. Factoring trinomials where a=1. Factoring trinomials where a  =1 (e.g., grouping method). Solving special cases like the difference of squares (a 2 −b 2 =0). Hour 3: The Quadratic Formula Introducing the quadratic formula: x= 2a −b± b 2 −4ac . Step-by-step walkthrough of how to apply the formula. Practice problems with various types of solutions (integer, fraction, radical). Hour 4: The Discriminant and Nature of Roots Understanding the discriminant: D=b 2 −4ac. How the discriminant determines the number and type of roots: D>0: Two distinct real roots. D=0: One repeated real root. D<0: Two complex (non-real) roots. Analyzing equations without fully solving them. Hour 5: Solving by Completing the Square Understanding perfect square trinomials. The step-by-step method for completing the square. Using this method to solve any quadratic equation. Connecting this method to the derivation of the quadratic formula. Hour 6: Graphing Quadratic Functions Introduction to parabolas. Finding the vertex, axis of symmetry, and y-intercept. Understanding how the value of 'a' affects the graph's direction (opening up or down). Connecting the roots of the equation to the x-intercepts of the graph. Hour 7: Applications and Word Problems Translating real-world scenarios into quadratic equations. Solving problems involving area, projectile motion, and optimization. Interpreting the solutions in the context of the problem. Hour 8: Review and Advanced Concepts Comprehensive review of all four solving methods (factoring, square root, completing the square, quadratic formula). Sum and product of roots. Forming a quadratic equation from its given roots. Practice session with mixed and challenging problems. Minimum Session Time: My minimum recommended session time is 1 hour. This allows enough time to introduce a new concept, work through examples, and practice without causing fatigue. I am available from 9am-9pm. You can start a session whenever you're ready to learn!
